Jack is "Soooooo Big"

My Grandma Hazel used to always play this cute game with litle babies. She'd lay them in front of her, holding her arms and saying...."How big is baby????" Then she'd help them stretch out their arms and say "Sooooooo Big." This is a rather contagious activity that I think everyone in my family has adopted as their own. And it popped into my head yesterday after our home nurse visit, when Jack was measured and weighed.

In the state of Ohio, there is a visiting nurse program for new mothers to get an extra check up (both for them and their baby). Its a great initiative. The nurse came to visit yesterday and gave me a ton of information on resources available to families. She was here for about two hours and checked out both Jack & I, while answering my questions. Jack is doing really well and it appears as though I'm adjusting quite well into motherhood.

Jack, at 15 days, now weighs 8lbs 8 oz and is 22 inches long. Wow! When we left the hospital, just 11 days ago, Jack weighed 7lbs 3 oz and was 21 inches long. How'd he get so much bigger so quickly? According to our nurse, this is wonderful news-- he's incredibly hydrated and is obviously flourishing on the nurishment I'm giving him....phew! The best part of the visit is that she re-affirmed that we're doing everything right, which is very reassuring. Having another being who is 100% dependent on us for all of his needs is a big responsibility. And, especially when you're first time parents, you can doubt yorself a little bit. Having an expert visit you in your home and confirm that we're doing all the right things helps me to feel confident. What a nice program.
