Today we hosted a little get-together for Jack to celebrate his 1st birthday. We invited our family and a few of our very close friends...and just had a blast as a group. Since Boomer and Jack are such buddies, we themed the party around dogs. The cake had a dog that looked like Boomer, we had cupcakes with dog bone confetti and chocolate dog lollipops, and our snack mixes were in decorative dog bowl dishes. Even the invites were addressed from Boomer (he has excellent pendmanship) and the Bananna bread cake I baked him was in the shape of a dog bone. We had fun with this theme.Of course, there was the ceremonial "smashing" of the birthday cake, which was a hoot. And there were a lot of treats to eat. What made it a great event were the people and the thoughtfulness of our family and friends. Jack received some incredible gifts...including a "Jack-sized" swingset, a picnic/activity table, a customized toddler-sized cornhole set (OU Bobcat Themed!!!), some great interactive toys, puzzles, books, and super-nice clothes. He even got a special birthday package from the Kelley's, who live in the Netherlands, with a super-cool frog that he loves to hug and cuddle on. But the best gifts around us are the gifts of the friends and family we have to help and support Jack.
I can only wonder what was going through Jack's mind during his birthday party today. He totally enjoyed it and did really, really well, but I'm sure that he had no idea what was going on. And that's okay, as there will be many birthday parties for him to learn that HE'S the one being celebrated. Happy Birthday Little Guy! Cheers to you!
